The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation has issued a public alert saying stinging nettle caterpillars have been spotted at Pualani Park in Kailua-Kona.
Parks staff members have notified the state Department of Agriculture and, weather permitting, will be spraying the area Tuesday morning, Sept. 9 with DiPelDF, a product that is non-toxic in terms of skin contact, eye contact, ingestion or inhalation, county officials said. Signs will be posted.
