A workshop on a possible constitutional convention in Hawaii will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium.

"Get Informed! A Primer on ConCon" will provide the audience with important information about the role and history of constitutional conventions in Hawaii and throughout the U.S., organizers said. The seminar is free, open to the public, and sponsored by the Hawaii Institute for Public Affairs, League of Women Voters of Hawaii, and the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law.

The keynote speaker is Professor Robert F. Williams, associate director of the Center for Constitutional Studies at the Rutgers University School of Law. Williams will discuss, in an historic and national context, the nature of state constitutions, their evolution as unique constitutional and political documents, and the various mechanisms and amendment and revision.

Comments and responses will be made by a local panel of experts, including: Anne Feder Lee, author of The Hawaii State Constitution, A Reference Guide; Professor Jon Van Dyke, UH Law School; and Amy Trask, law student at the UH Law School. The panel discussion will be moderated by Aviam Soifer, Dean of the UH Law School.
