Cynthia Ucarer of Maui has a passion for Turkey and makes it her mission to bring in fabulous finds from Istanbul and Konya, as well as from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgystan, among other exotic locales; 2008 marks the sixth year of her Global Caravan Turkish Bazaar in O'ahu's Chinatown. Her offerings have expanded to include accessories such as tribal and modern jewelry, pashminas and shawls, belly dance scarves, belts and harem pants. She has also discovered a tribal women's village cooperative in Kyrgystan that makes charming felt folk art angels, Christmas ornaments, Turkish kilims and other rare carpets.
An opening night reception for the bazaar is 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Roy Venter's Gallery, 1160 Nu'uanu Ave. The sale is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Nov. 13. Call Cynthia at 808-281-5171 or 808-521-5171.
ON OUR RADAR:
GUERLAIN MASCARA
Mascara isn't usually a cause for excitement, but Guerlain's new Le 2 can bring a flutter to any fashionista. Designed by a Scandinavian architect, it's an elegant shape that feels good in the hand. It features two brushes (hence the name), a long one for the top lashes that creates volume, and a short one that catches the corner and lower lashes, which are often missed with other mascaras. The formula uses polymers instead of the usual waxes, except for a tiny touch of paraffin for its moisturizing properties. Le 2 comes in black, brown, blue and violet. Or glam it up for the holidays with a limited edition, with violet sparkle gel on the small brush. Find it for $35 at Sephora or Neiman Marcus. Note: This waterproof mascara stays put; be sure to have a trusted eye makeup remover on hand.
