KAHULUI, Maui — Hawaii Superferry is trimming its schedule on the Oahu-Maui route and hiking some prices as it switches to a "fall schedule" beginning today, The Maui News reported today.
The schedules for services and fares posted on the Superferry Web site indicate a number of changes that are now in effect.
Sunday fares will go up by $10, depending on travel direction, while weekday and Saturday fares will remain the same. Superferry spokeswoman Lori Abe said the company did not announce the adjustments because there are so many variations by day and route, recommending that passengers check the rate schedule posted at www.hawaiisuperferry.com.
Changes in the route include eliminating service on Tuesdays and a second round trip on Sundays, while rescheduling the single Sunday round trip to depart Kahului at 1:30 p.m. rather than at 11 a.m.
The 350-foot Alakai has been running a daily round trip that starts at 6:30 a.m. on Oahu, arrives at Kahului at 9:30 a.m., leaves Kahului at 11 a.m. and arrives on Oahu at 2 p.m. It is also running a second round trip on Fridays and Sundays, leaving Oahu at 3:30 p.m. and leaving Kahului at 8 p.m.
Beginning today, there will be a second round trip offered only on Fridays, and on Nov. 26 and Nov. 30 — the Thanksgiving weekend.
The schedule also indicates the ferry runs may be longer in the winter season. Beginning Dec. 1, the run from Oahu to Maui is scheduled to start at 6:30 a.m. but not arrive until 10:15 a.m. The run back to Oahu leaves at 11:15 a.m. and arrives at 2:15 p.m.
