Weather: Weekend should be sunny and clear

Moderate trade winds and a stable and somewhat dry pattern of windward and mauka showers will prevail into early next week, the National Weather Service said.

Trade winds will decline during the first half of next week, forecasters said.

The remnants of a shear line will clear the state this morning, setting up a drier rainfall pattern heading into the weekend.

Some residual moisture will remain hung up over windward slopes early this morning, particularly on the Big Island, but a drier airmass will settle over the islands today.

This drier airmass combined with stable ridging aloft will limit modest rainfall to windward areas, while leeward sections of the smaller islands will experience abundant sunshine.

Moderate trade winds will prevail through the weekend as a high pressure area remains in place far northwest of the islands. Northeasterly trades will be slightly stronger today as the shear line moves southward away from the state.

Today...Sunny. Isolated showers in the morning. Highs 82 to 87. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight...Mostly clear. Lows 65 to 73. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday...Sunny. Highs 81 to 86. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night...Mostly clear. Lows 66 to 74. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday...Sunny. Highs 81 to 86. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday Night...Mostly clear. Lows 65 to 73. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
