A 20-year-old man who allegedly fired a shot during a robbery Sunday in Waikele was charged last night with first-degree robbery, a firearm offense and first-degree terroristic threatening.

James E. Guiton, who gave no permanent local address at booking, is being held in lieu of $100,000. He made his initial appearance today at District Court and has a preliminary hearing scheduled Thursday.

Guiton was arrested Sunday at Hiapo and Mahoe streets at 10 a.m. with a 17-year-old boy, whose case status is unknown since it is under the jurisdiction of Family Court. Police allegedly found a Pietro Beretta-Brescia caliber 7.65 pistol with seven unspent rounds in a magazine in Guiton's pocket.

Guiton and juvenile suspect entered Roll of Hawaii's recycling center at 94-795 Lumiaina St. dressed in black and wearing Halloween masks at 9:35 a.m. While allegedly demanding money from two employees, the mask of the juvenile suspect fell off.

According to an affidavit filed at court, the juvenile allegedly ordered the guman who was about four feet away to shoot the employee in front of him. The employees ran away and heard a shot fired by the suspects who were also fleeing.

The employees told police about eight people were in line at the recycling center when the shot was fired, the affidavit said.

Police recovered the black clothing and Halloween masks in a garbage can about 300 feet south of where the pair were arrested.
