Boise State sophomore wide receiver Titus Young's suspension has been changed to indefinite, football coach Chris Petersen said Monday.

Young originally was suspended for "at least" three games, through Friday night's game at San Jose State. He was suspended for violating team rules.

Young is not practicing with the team. He hasn't violated any rules since his original suspension, Petersen said.

"It's just that we need time apart," Petersen said.

Petersen gave no indication of when he would reconsider Young's status.

"We'll look at it down the road," he said. "That's the best I can do for you guys." Young had 10 catches for 168 yards and one touchdown and five carries for 52 yards and two touchdowns this season. He previously was suspended for the game against Bowling Green, so he has only played in three of seven games.

The Broncos, who play Saturday night at New Mexico State (5:07 p.m. MDT), have not hit a deep ball to a wide receiver in the past three games without the speedy Young. The streak is at four games overall.

"To throw deep balls, you have to be able to pass-protect for quite a while," Petersen said. "We've got to be better there. Some of it is coverage issues. Some of it is the defense not allowing us to do those types of things."

PETERSEN TO WASHINGTON? Petersen's name already is in the rumor mill at Washington, which announced Monday that coach Ty Willingham will step down at the end of the season. Washington plans to begin its search immediately, ESPN.com reported.

"Like we tell our guys, if we're doing the things we want to do here, that's a good thing that our names are being thrown out," Petersen said. "We love Boise State University and we've got a good thing going here. There's always going to be rumors we can't control." He declined to answer questions about whether he would be interested in the job.
