DETROIT — Santana Moss dashed Detroit's hopes of finally winning a game.

Moss had a go-ahead touchdown reception in the third quarter and returned a punt for another score in the fourth, lifting the Washington Redskins to a 25-17 victory over the winless Lions today.

Jason Campbell threw for 328 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Moss nine times for 140 yards for the Redskins (6-2).

Clinton Portis joined O.J. Simpson in the NFL record book with his fifth straight game with at least 120 yards rushing.

Shaun Suisham kicked four field goals, including a 42-yarder with 1:56 to go that put Washington ahead by 8 points and capped a drive that took nearly 5 minutes off the clock.

Detroit (0-7) got the ball at its 23 with no timeouts left — needing a touchdown and 2-point conversion to force overtime — but the drive ended near midfield with a short pass on fourth down.

The Redskins allowed the Lions to go ahead with their first score in an opening quarter this season and trailed until Moss caught a 50-yard pass that capped a 95-yard drive with 4:42 left in the third quarter. He returned a punt 80 yards early in the fourth, giving Washington a 22-10 lead.

Moss scored on a punt return for the first time since 2002, when he was playing for the New York Jets, and set a season high with nine receptions.

Portis finished with 126 yards rushing. After he appeared to miss a handoff early in the game, Redskins coach Jim Zorn was seen screaming at the running back on the bench.

Campbell completed 23 of 28 passes, extending his streak without an interception, but had his first turnover this season when he lost a fumble after being sacked in the first quarter.

That gave the Lions the ball at midfield, and they took advantage, handing off to Rudi Johnson for an 11-yard score with 13 seconds left in the quarter.

Detroit went ahead 10-3 on Jason Hanson's field goal early in the second quarter.

Suisham chipped away at the deficit with a kick as time expired in the first half and another early in the third.

Dan Orlovsky was 21-of-35 for 223 yards and a TD pass to Calvin Johnson on a fourth down — the second such conversion on a drive midway through the fourth quarter.

The Lions needed to get the ball back, trailing 22-17, but they couldn't.

Campbell opened the victory-sealing possession with a 20-yard pass to Moss. Portis later converted a third down near midfield with a powerful run up the middle and set up the final field goal with a 31-yard gain.

Offensive tackle Jon Jansen helped Campbell out on the Redskins' final drive, recovering the quarterback's fumble, to preserve the chance to kick the lead-padding field goal.
