Meeting set for Makaua stream restoration, debris removal

Associated Press

The Department of Land and Natural Resources is hosting an information meeting for the public regarding its restoration and debris removal project in Makaua Stream.

Makaua Stream was one of the streams in windward O'ahu that was heavily damaged by the severe March 2006 storm.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ka'a'awa Elementary School Cafeteria, 51-296 Kamehameha Highway.

Federal funds will finance 75 percent of the construction cost with the state funding the remaining 25 percent.

Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2008.
