CaneFires roll past Sharks

Pitcher Tim Bascom allowed no hits in five innings, and Miles Durham went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead West Oahu CaneFires to a 7-2 victory over Honolulu Sharks yesterday in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park.
West Oahu is 7-7. Honolulu is 10-4.
Durham had a run-scoring single in the third inning and two-run double in the sixth. He leads the league with 15 RBIs. Right-hander Bascom (1-1) struck out two and walked none and left the game with a 5-0 lead.
The game between the Waiki Beach Boys and North Shore Honu was postponed because of a power outage at Hans L'Orange. No makeup date was announced.

BYUH SWEEPS DIXIE
Anges Tuilevuka had 13 kills and Faylynn Merrick added 11 to lift Brigham Young-Hawai'i to a 25-22, 25-19, 25-15 victory over Dixie State in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match last night at Cannon Activities Center.
BYUH is 10-5 overall and 7-0 in the PacWest. Dixie is 7-11 and 3-5.

UH-HILO WOMEN WIN
Adele Letro scored on a low cross on a corner kick to give the University of Hawai'i-Hilo women a 1-0 victory yesterday over Notre Dame de Namur in a Pacific West Conference soccer match at Belmont, Calif.
UH-Hilo is 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the PacWest. Notre Dame de Namur is 4-8 and 2-4.
Letro's goal came off an assist from Megan Pachecano at 18:53 in the first half.
In the men's match, Notre Dame de Namur defeated UH-Hilo, 3-0. UHH is 6-3-1 and 1-2-1. NDNU is 8-2-2 and 4-0-1.

UH WOMEN NINTH
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished ninth yesterday at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate at Las Cruces, N.M.
UC Irvine won the three-round tournament with an 881, followed by Baylor (899) and Oklahoma (903). UH shot 930.
Jane Chin of UC Irvine earned medalist honors, shooting a 4-under 68 in the final round for a 4-under 212 and a four-shot victory. Kelcie Kawano was UH's highest finisher, shooting a 77 in the final round for a 227.
