• The American Red Cross, Hawai'i State Chapter has received a $5,000 gift from State Farm Insurance. The money will be used to provide local disaster relief, training and preparedness education and emergency communications for military families.

• Hawai'i Medical Service Association has granted University of Hawai'i Foundation, John A. Burns School of Medicine $75,000 to help JABSOM Area Health Education Centers on the Neighbor Islands encourage young people to pursue healthcare careers.

The grant will allow Neighbor Island high school students to explore opportunities in the healthcare industry and ultimately increase the number of medical professionals living and working in Neighbor Island communities.

• Mid-Pacific Country Club and Friends of Hawaii Charities have donated $5,000 each to the following: the Castle Medical Center Breathe Free (Stop Smoking) Program; Soroptimist International of Windward Oahu's Scholarship Programs for Women and the Windward Rotary Endowment Fund for College Scholarships. The money was raised as a result of hosting the SONY Open Pro Am Satellite at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

• The Women's Fund of Hawai'i, a grant-making foundation dedicated exclusively to supporting women and girls in Hawai'i, has awarded grants to:

Neighborhood Place of Wailuku, $5,000 to fund a special program to provide mothers and grandmothers raising their grandchildren with education and support resources.

Hawai'i State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, $5,000, for transportation assistance to domestic violence victims and their children.

Hope, Help and Healing Kauai, $5,000 for a life-skills program that helps women suffering from life trauma or substance abuse to return to their families.

Kokua Kalihi Valley, $5,000 for a sewing project in collaboration with two local designers to help low-income women and girls to become independent and self-sufficient.

Malama Family Recovery Center/Malama Na Makua a Keiki — Baby SAFE Program, $5,000 in partnership with Hawai'i Community Foundation for a program that provides outreach and early intervention to pregnant women at risk of substance abuse.

ProjectFocus Hawaii, $5,000 for a project using professional photography and written narratives between mothers residing at a halfway house and inmates at the Women's Correctional Center and their children.
