Cheerios is putting 3 million children's books into their cereal boxes to help parents nurture their children's love of reading (and maybe to wean them off sugary cereal).

The Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories program kicks off during Give a Child a Book Week, starting Monday. There are five different titles, including one featuring the popular Nickelodeon characters Dora and Diego, as well as "Duck for President." All the books are printed in English and Spanish. Bonus: Parents will be able to see which book they're getting through a cut-out window.

FITNESS

QUICK, HEALTHY CHANGES — MAKING THEM LAST IS KEY

"Eating healthy and exercising won't help you if it's only temporary," says M.J. Ryan, author of "This Year I Will …" Her advice on sticking to a goal, from October's Fitness magazine:

  • Make it nonnegotiable. Don't tell yourself that you can cop out.

  • Find solutions for your usual excuses. Write down your most common reasons for not doing something healthy, and brainstorm strategies to deal with them.

  • Do it daily. The more something is part of your everyday life, the less you'll have to think about it.

    FINAL WORD

"You can tell when you meet a guy who didn't grow up with sisters. You tell him, 'A period is not that bad.' Girls weren't a mystery to me. Like what makes them cry — that was always at my fingertips."
