Punahou School athletic director Tom Holden will retire at the end of the 2008-2009 school year, the school announced today.

Holden, 61, has guided Punahou athletics for 11 years.

In 2007, the Buffanblu captured 16 state championship titles and the school's athletics program was ranked first in the nation by Sports Illustrated magazine in May 2008.

"Tom has helped shape our athletics program to reflect the values and vision of our school," Punahou President James K. Scott said in a statement. "At Punahou, we aspire to be competitive in every sport we field. But our ultimate goal as a school is to teach respect, responsibility, cooperation and humility through athletics. These are the lessons that we hope our student-athletes carry with them for the rest of their lives."

Scott will appoint a committee to conduct a national search for a new Punahou athletic director. The search is scheduled to take place over the next few months.
