Josh Akognon and Cal State Fullerton shot down the University of Hawaii

men's basketball team tonight.

Akognon made seven 3-pointers and scored 41 points to lead the Titans to a

90-76 victory over the Rainbow Warriors at the Stan Sheriff Center.

A crowd of 3,178 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the 'Bows go 0-2 in the

season-opening Verizon Wireless Tip-Off Classic. Fullerton went 1-1 in the

four-team tournament.

Roderick Flemings led Hawaii with 21 points. Petras Balocka added 14

points, and Brandon Adams scored 13 for the 'Bows.

The game was close for the first 30 minutes, but the Titans pulled away in

the final 10 minutes.

The score was tied nine times in the first half, including 37-37 at

intermission.

Akognon was the catalyst for the Titans, scoring 20 points — including four

3-pointers — in the first half.

The Titans went on a 10-3 run early in the second half to take a 49-44 lead

with 15:22 remaining. They kept the lead the rest of the game.

San Francisco defeated Texas State, 88-74, in the first game to win the

tournament championship.

Hawaii is scheduled to play again tomorrow against Idaho State. The game is

scheduled to start at 11 p.m. because it will be televised live nationally

on ESPN.
