MIAMI — Javarris James ran for a touchdown, Matt Bosher kicked three field goals, and Miami got a huge defensive stand in the final minutes to beat Virginia Tech, 16-14, last night and move into first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.

Marcus Robinson had three sacks and a third-down tackle for a loss with 2:27 left to help the Hurricanes (7-3, 4-2) win their fifth straight.

Tyrod Taylor ran for two touchdowns, including a 6-yarder with 3:28 remaining for the Hokies (6-4, 3-3), who had won four of the last five meetings against the Hurricanes.

"Tremendous game tonight," said Miami coach Randy Shannon. "Unbelievable. ... It was nip-and-tuck, which way would it go, you didn't know."

BUFFALO 43, AKRON 40

A.J. Principe kicked a 40-yard field goal in the fourth overtime to lift the visiting Bulls (6-4, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) over the Zips (5-5, 3-3).

UNLV 22, WYOMING 14

Mike Clausen threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Rodelin Anthony to make it 22-14 with 12:15 left in the game as the host Rebels (5-6, 2-5 Mountain West) beat the Cowboys (4-7, 1-6).
