Campbell overcame three uncharacteristic interceptions by quarterback Lalo Respicio — who finished with 361 yards passing and three touchdowns to Daniel Masifilo — to claim the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Division football title with a 28-14 win over Radford at Aloha Stadium last night.

For the Sabers (9-1), ranked 10th in The Advertiser's Top 10 poll, it was their first title since 2004. They racked up 416 yards of total offense in winning their sixth straight game. The Rams, who handed Campbell its lone loss Sept. 5 in a game in which Respicio did not play, fell to 8-3.

"I'm so happy for all of my players," said Campbell coach Amosa Amosa, who took over at his alma mater this year after spending the past eight seasons as offensive coordinator at 'Aiea. "They believed in our coaching staff, which did an awesome job in preparing them for the game."

Last night, Respicio was intercepted as many times in his first 10 attempts as he was all season. But the Sabers' defense did not allow any points off the turnovers, forcing two punts and a fumble.

"Our defense played awesome. They won this game for us," Respicio said.

The teams combined for four punts and three turnovers before Campbell got on the board with 2:21 left in the first quarter. Respicio let a long pass fly down the left sideline and connected with Masifilo, who beat the Radford defender and got under the ball for a 51-yard touchdown.

Respicio scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak as he followed the block of right guard Layton Gomez to extend the Campbell lead to 14-0 headed into halftime.

"In the beginning we came out flat, but we just stuck it out and came back to win," Respicio said. "The (offensive) linemen were giving me time and I'm pretty confident with my throws."

The Sabers opened the second half with an eight-play scoring drive, covering 59 yards, capped by a 10-yard TD pass from Respicio to Masifilo.

Radford answered with a 7-yard TD pass from Doug Brown to Brad Osborne on its ensuing drive to make it 21-7.

After Radford cut it to 21-14, Masifilo's third TD catch highlighted the Sabers' ensuing drive, which put his team ahead 28-14 with 4:25 left to play.

"That's like our route right there," Masifilo said of the fade pattern. "Lalo and I stay after practice and we work together. All those times we practiced, we got it down and we just knew what to do."

He finished with seven catches for 157 yards.

"They're explosive, any one of those guys could have had a huge game (last night)," Radford coach Fred Salanoa said. "We couldn't key on one guy because they have four or five guys that can get into the end zone."

Both teams have qualified for the state tournament. .
