Likelike reopened after injured hiker rescued

The Likelike Highway reopened at 3:25 p.m. yesterday after HFD rescue crews airlifted an injured hiker out of the Ice Pond area in Kalihi Valley.
HFD Capt. Terry Seelig said the man, who was in his 40s, fell from the top of the waterfall on the Ice Pond trail. He was airlifted out of the area, transferred to an ambulance and taken to an area hospital. The extent of his injuries was not known.
The call came in at 2:33 p.m., Seelig said, and the highway was closed in both directions while the man was being airlifted and put into the ambulance.
