Alaska Air begins flights to Kahului

Alaska Airlines yesterday inaugurated seasonal service between Anchorage and Kahului.

The airline will operate flights three days a week through April 25.

Flights from Anchorage depart Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:20 p.m. Alaska time and arrive at 6:35 p.m. Hawai'i time. Return flights depart Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:45 p.m. Hawai'i time and arrive at 5 a.m. Alaska time.

The flights are operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin.


CYANOTECH NAMES FINANCIAL OFFICER

Cyanotech Corp. said Deanna L. Spooner will become its vice president for finance and administration, chief financial officer, secretary and treasurer effective Nov. 14.

She will succeed William R. Maris, who has accepted a post as chief financial officer of Parker Ranch.

Spooner has served as controller of Kailua, Kona-based Cyanotech since January.

Maris' appointment as Parker Ranch CFO is effective Nov. 10.

Maris' responsibilities will include directing the accounting, finance and tax compliance functions for all Parker Ranch entities.

Maris and his wife have resided on the Big Island for the past three years.


COMMERCIAL FISHING LICENSES ONLINE

The Department of Land and Natural Resources' Division of Aquatic Resources is now offering online commercial fisheries licensing services to the public.

Fishermen who catch and land marine life in the state for commercial purposes, and businesses that commercialize regulated marine life in the state will be able to obtain new licenses, or renew their licenses online. Fishermen who harvest live marine life for aquarium activities also can obtain permits online.

The license fee is $50 for all license types, except for a non-resident Commercial Marine License applicant, which is $200. There is no fee for aquarium permits and the Aquaculture Dealer License. Commercial fishermen who are not in compliance with the monthly fishing report requirement will not be able to renew any commercial fisheries license type.

The Small Business Administration is offering free consultations to O'ahu small business owners on how to deal with challenges from the economic downturn.

The "SBA Resource Days" will be presented by SBA staff in conjunction with area lenders. SBA staff will explain the federal agency's guaranteed loans, government contracting certifications and business development opportunities, and other sources for training, business counseling, planning and technical assistance.
