David Beckham stepped up to the ball and singled out his target, like so many times before at Wembley Stadium. If any Americans were still were wondering, he showed what all the fuss back home was about.
Beckham sent a trademark curling free kick with laser precision toward John Terry for the go-ahead goal in the 38th minute, and England outclassed the United States, 2-0, in an exhibition game at Wembley, England.
"That's my job, to get the ball into the right area," Beckham said. "It's J.T.'s job ... to be at the right end of it."
Steven Gerrard scored the second goal in the 59th minute off a through-ball from Gareth Barry that exposed the U.S. defense.
The match drew 71,233 to Wembley, the lowest figure in any of England's eight games at the 90,000-capacity arena, which opened in 2007 following years of reconstruction.
CHING SPURS DYNAMO
Dwayne De Rosario scored in the 93rd minute and added an assist to help the Houston Dynamo tie FC Dallas, 2-2, last night in a Major League Soccer game at Frisco, Texas.
Houston forward Brian Ching, a Kamehameha School alum from Hawai'i, took a shot from inside the penalty area that FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala stopped, but the ball bounced straight to De Rosario, who tapped the ball into the left corner of the net.
Both clubs had to play the final 10 minutes of the match with only 10 players after Houston's Eddie Robinson and FC Dallas' Andre Rocha were both ejected in the 80th minute. Robinson received his second yellow card of the match for pushing and Rocha was given a red card for violent conduct.
FC Dallas (3-3-4) had taken a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute after Drew Moor scored on a header from the top of the goalie's box.
Corey Ashe, who entered the game at the beginning of the second half, tied the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute for the Dynamo (2-3-5) on an assist from Ching.

CAR TAMPERING PENALTY
The crew chiefs for Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter have been fined $100,000 each and suspended six races for tampering with the rear wings on their Chevrolets during last weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
In addition, the car chiefs for both Chevrolets were also suspended in an unprecedented move by NASCAR.
Riggs and Sauter were also docked 150 driver points, and the car owners were docked 150 owner points. Although both cars are fielded by Haas-CNC Motorsports, general manager Joe Custer is listed as owner of Riggs' No. 66 and Margaret Haas is listed as owner of Sauter's No. 70.
NASCAR officials said the Haas organization was ratted out by other teams in the garage following Thursday's qualifying for the Coca-Cola 600. When NASCAR checked on the two Chevrolets, officials determined the brackets on the rear wings had been tampered with in an attempt to move the wing and create an aerodynamic advantage.
