Hall of Honor selects 12 recipients

Lahainaluna football and wrestling standout Lake Casco will join older brothers Kawika and Kainoa to become the first three siblings to be inducted into the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Foundation Hall of Honor.
Casco and 11 other senior athletes were chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Honor Class of 2008 by a 15-member committee, which concluded its two-day selection process yesterday. Each inductee will receive a $2,000 college scholarship and will be honored at the HHSAA Awards Recognition Dinner at 5:30 p.m., June 8 at the Sheraton Waikiki.

The banquet's keynote speaker will be University of Hawai'i football coach Greg McMackin, and proceeds from the dinner will go toward the HHSAA Foundation, which helps supplement the costs of 32 state championship events.
The Honolulu Advertiser will be a title sponsor of the Hall for the second straight year. It was known as the Nissan Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor from 1983 to 2006.
Primary consideration was given to athletic achievement, but other factors included academics, character and school /community service.
Kawika Casco was a member of the 2000 Hall class, and Kainoa Casco was inducted in 2002. Lake Casco was an Advertiser All-State first team selection in football and a two-time individual state wrestling champion. Ader and Chow each won three individual state championships in both wrestling and judo.
Herring was a three-time Advertiser State Player of the Year in volleyball. Ikeda-Simao was regarded as Kaua'i's top female athlete; Ishida was The Advertiser's 2007 State Player of the Year in baseball.
Kuehu was The Advertiser's Girls Basketball State Player of the Year in 2006 and 2008; Pagaduan helped Kamehameha win state titles in soccer and softball this year. Shoji was an All-State volleyball player and two-time tennis doubles state champion.
Smith was a two-time Advertiser All-State first team basketball player; Wong was a 2007 Advertiser All-State catcher in baseball and Yoshida won eight gold medals in swimming.
