American Airlines flight to Hawaii returns to L.A.

LOS ANGELES — Authorities say an American Airlines flight headed for Hawaii had to turn around and land back at Los Angeles International Airport because of an electronic malfunction.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the flight left for Kahului Airport in Maui shortly after 5 p.m. Monday night and the pilot quickly discovered that the autopilot on the Boeing 757 wasn't working.
Gregor says the plane turned around and landed at LAX without incident just before 6 p.m.
