Golf: Tiger Woods intends to play at Buick Open

Associated Press

GRAND BLANC, Mich. — Tiger Woods intends to play in the Buick Open and will host a golf clinic at Comerica Park in Detroit on June 24, two days before the tournament begins.

Buick golf marketing manager Larry Peck announced Woods' participation during a news conference today.

Woods hasn't played since undergoing knee surgery two days after the Masters, and isn't expected to return until the U.S. Open in mid-June. The Buick Open, a tournament Woods has played eight times and won twice, comes two weeks later.

Woods doesn't usually commit to tournaments until the last minute, but his plans are concrete enough that the tournament announced he will host a clinic.

"Tiger is very excited about this clinic, because it will be the first one he has held at a baseball stadium," Peck said.

Woods skipped the Buick Open last season after the birth of his daughter.
