Waialua's Jay Keao has been coaching his daughter Marissa in softball since she was 7.

If yesterday was any indication, he's done a pretty good job.

Marissa Keao pitched a three-hitter and batted 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs as Waialua beat Pahoa, 10-1, in the first round of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball Division II Championships at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

"As a coach and father, a lot is expected," Jay Keao said of his daughter. "I leave my parent's side on the side when the coaching time comes. Since I've been with her so long I know what she can do."

Marissa Keao, a junior right-hander, walked three and struck out seven.

"I was pretty much hitting my spots," she said. "I didn't try any fancy stuff and my change-up worked today."

Waialua, the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's No. 3 team, improved to 12-3. The Bulldogs will face Kaua'i, the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion and No. 1 seed, in the quarterfinals today at 5 p.m.

Marissa Keao threw 70 of her 109 pitches for strikes, and only one of the hits she allowed left the infield.

"She pretty much hit her targets and her change-up worked well on a few batters," Jay Keao said. "She kept her composure."

The Daggers' Tumama'o Enos broke up the shutout in the sixth with a lead-off homer to right, which made it 5-1.

"That was a big mistake," Marissa Keao said. "It was outside and low. She took it (out)."

At the plate, Marissa Keao, the No. 3 hitter, tripled in a run in the first, singled in the fifth and drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth.

"We practice a lot of hitting," she said. "We've been doing it a lot more than defense because that's what wins games — offense."

The Bulldogs scored two in the second on two hits and two walks to make it 3-0. Jessica Temblor scored on a passed ball and Althia Dicion singled in Chanelle Naki.

Waialua scored two in the fifth and sent nine batters to the plate in a five-run sixth.

Alyssiah Hernandez finished 2 for 3 with three runs, and Temblor was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs for the Bulldogs.

Three Waialua runs scored on errors. A passed ball, wild pitch and walk led to three more runs.

Pahoa, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, dropped to 6-6.

Jocelyn Enrique went 3 for 3 with two home runs and drove in three runs as the Warriors (6-8) beat the Golden Hawks (5-10) to advance to the Division II quarterfinals.

Kori Kimura also went 3 for 3 for Kapa'a and scored twice. Warriors' pitcher Melina Obar gave up only four hits in the game, shortened to five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Kapa'a plays No. 2 seed Farrington today at CORP at 7 p.m.

Annie Lariosa pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Wolfpack (7-8) beat the Seariders (11-4) at CORP.

Pac-Five scored two runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Leeann Lariosa and Keline Yoshimura hit consecutive doubles to start the inning to score one run. Samantha Ford's grounder to the right side advanced Yoshimura to third, and she scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

Wolfpack courtesy runner Stefanie Sueda scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and Chante Tesoro had a three-run triple in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Rylen Hoapili had both of Wai'anae's hits.

Kayla Alcoran pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Cougars (12-4) routed the Wildcats (6-6) in a game shortened to five innings at CORP.

Alcoran allowed singles in the fourth and fifth innings.

Caliann Fukuda drove in three runs, and Chelsy Okuma and Kristyn Mathewson each had two RBIs for Kaiser.
