Karma to talk on global citizenship

The Buddhist Peace Fellowship-O'ahu presents the Karma Lekshe Tsomo giving a free talk on "Bridging Worlds: The Middle Way of Global Citizenship" at 6:30 p.m. May 30 at the Honolulu Jodo Mission.
She is an American nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and a former Hawai'i resident. Socially engaged Buddhism — the practice of integrating Buddhist principles and values with participation within a democratic society — will be the focus of her talk.

MEDITATION SERIES SET AT UH-MANOA
The University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Outreach College will offer a six-class series on "Meditation for Mindfulness" at 7 p.m. Tuesdays from Tuesday to June 17 at the school's physical education complex 245, studio 3.
The cost for the series is $45.
The basics of sitting, standing, walking and eating meditation from the ancient Theravada Buddhist tradition will be covered.

RABBI TO LECTURE ON JEWISH STATE
Temple Emanu-El hosts visiting scholar Rabbi David J. Forman for a presentation on "Three Major Concerns of the Jewish State," a free public lecture, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
It's among several appearances for Forman, former director of the Israel office in Jerusalem of the Union for Reform Judaism and author of four books.

CLASSES FOCUS ON BUDDHIST CULTURES
University of Hawai'i-Manoa Outreach College is offering "Buddhist Cultures of the Himalayas," a six-class series with John Johnston, the assistant curator of Honolulu Academy of Arts' exhibition, "The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan."
Johnston helped locate and select works, negotiated their loan with the Bhutanese government, and researched, wrote and edited the catalog. He is co-founder and co-editor of Buddhist Art News.
The 6 p.m. class meets Monday and Wednesday beginning June 2 at the Pacific Ocean Science & Technology building, room 127.
