LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Recapturetheglory might skip the Preakness after developing a fever. The colt finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby.
Assistant trainer Lara Van Deren said the colt became feverish Friday night and his temperature spiked at 102 degrees this morning. The horse was given medication as a precaution and will have blood work done.
Recapturetheglory won't go to Pimlico later Saturday as planned.
The colt won the Illinois Derby and started the Kentucky Derby from the No. 18 post. He was in second place in the race before fading to fifth behind winner Big Brown.
