WAILUKU
Upgrade of Information Systems center complete

The county has completed a long-awaited upgrade and expansion of its Information Systems computing center to ensure more reliable and secure operations, even during power outages and other emergencies.

The $1 million project was supported by the County Council and implemented by the departments of Management and Public Works.

"Over the years, the growing demand for computer-related services had outgrown the central network and server room's capacity, and we're happy that this upgrade allows us to protect the county's investment by creating a more stable environment for the technology that supports the county's functions," said Information Systems manager Jacob Verkerke.

The project, which doubled the size of the computing center, included the installation of a specialized air-conditioning system and backup generator, and the rewiring of the electrical and data network infrastructure.

The center provides essential support for more than 60 servers and the county's extensive network, which connects Maui, Lana'i and Moloka'i.
