The scenic 4-mile Boundary Trail and 1.7-mile Redwood Trail in the Kula Forest Reserve will open to bicyclists on a trial basis starting Tuesday, according to the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Bicycles were not allowed on these trails in the past. The DLNR's Division of Forestry and Wildlife will evaluate the impact of bicycles in the area and review user comments in October and again in April 2009, the agency said.

The Mamane and Upper Waiohuli trails remain closed for removal of trees damaged in a January 2007 forest fire and will reopen when safe for public access.

Bicycles also are being allowed on the entire length of Waipoli Road.
