New service expedites Hawaii ID card applications

Advertiser Staff

A new Internet service is now available to help Hawai'i residents expedite their Hawai'i State Identification Card applications.

The Hawaii State ID Card online system is available at http://stateid.ehawaii.gov.

Applicants can fill in an online application form, pay by credit card over ehawaii.gov's secure payment system, and obtain a customized list of required documents before going to the state ID card office to complete the final steps of the application process.

Applicants who bring a printed online application receipt to the office, together with the required documents listed on the receipt, may use an express line to have their documents verified and their photograph taken.

The Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center (HCJDC), which operates the state ID card office, issues almost 80,000 cards each year. Currently, applicants must fill out a paper application form and pay with cash, in person. The heavy demand for state ID cards often causes long lines, and some applicants bring incomplete documentation and must return to the office at a later time.

The service fee is $3. The traditional application process will continue to be available for applicants who do not have access to the Internet or prefer to pay with cash.

The HCJDC is a division of the Department of the Attorney General.
