DUIs up 4 percent on Big Island

Big Island police arrested 24 motorists for drunk driving last week. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 285 DUI arrests, compared with 274 during the same period last year, an increase of 4 percent.
There have been 404 major accidents so far this year compared with 480 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.
So far this year, there have been nine traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with nine during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
