LIHU'E — A search along Kaua'i's South Shore this morning by foot, air and Jet Ski failed to find a 36-year-old kayaker who has been missing since Saturday afternoon.
The search for Corey German will change this afternoon to a "passive" search, following up on any new information about his possible whereabouts, Kaua'i Fire Chief Robert Westerman said.
German was reported missing about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, after lifeguards rescued his wife, Tina, also 36, from a choppy ocean about 400 yards offshore at Po'ipu on Kaua'i's South Shore. The couple had launched a kayak at Koloa Landing earlier that afternoon, according to Kaua'i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
The Kaua'i Fire Department and the Coast Guard searched for German into the night Saturday and all day yesterday, concentrating on the area between Koloa Landing and Spouting Horn, Daubert said.
Tina German was taken to Wilcox Hospital Saturday. No update on her condition was available today.
