Kamehameha's Amber Waracka lost her no-hit bid after the first batter she faced yesterday, but after that it was total domination.

Waracka pitched a one-hitter — an infield single to the first hitter — with zero walks and 12 strikeouts as Kamehameha beat Sacred Hearts, 5-0, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball game at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

"Today my riser, my curve and my screw (were working)," Waracka said. "I have a changeup, but it wasn't really working today."

The Lancers' hit was by Raecha Kauahikaua, who slapped the ball to shortstop and beat the throw to first.

"It wasn't really a good hit," Waracka said. "It just touched the bat. We almost had her at first, but we got all the rest out. It didn't really matter because we didn't let her score."

Waracka, a senior right-hander, allowed only one other runner the rest of the way — a hit by pitch in the fourth. She threw 69 of her 96 pitches for strikes.

"She's one of the best pitchers we've faced this season," said Sacred Hearts coach Wade Okamura.

Waracka has now thrown a no-hitter, one-hitter and two-hitter for Kamehameha (3-0) this season.

The five-inning no-hitter came March 8 in a 10-0 victory over Maryknoll and the two-hitter was March 12 in a 2-0 win over 'Iolani.

"Amber's really been doing a good job so far for us this year," said Kamehameha assistant coach James Millwood, who is filling in while head coach Randall Tamura is away on a business trip. "She's going to be the pitcher we go to. She's hitting her spots and letting her defense play."

The Warriors scored a run in the second against Sacred Hearts (1-2) on an RBI single by Ashley Morisako, and put the game away with a four-run sixth.

Jamie Millwood had a two-run single in the sixth, Alexxus Ho had an RBI groundout and Pomai Kalakau had a run-scoring single. The inning included a throwing error by the third baseman on a sacrifice bunt and a botched rundown between third and home plate after a ground ball to the shortstop.

"I think sometimes when we start off slow we tend to kind of turn it on as they see the pitching and get the timing down," James Millwood said.

The lone highlight for Sacred Hearts was a triple play in the fourth.

Millwood singled to right off Joslyn Eugenio and took second on a walk to Ho. Kalakau followed with a liner caught by first baseman Corry Abellanida, who stepped on the bag for the second out and threw to shortstop Laura Abellanida covering second for the third out.

MARYKNOLL 5, PUNAHOU 1

Ariel Silva tossed a five-hitter and the Spartans (2-1) scored four runs in the sixth inning to beat the Buffanblu (0-3) at CORP.

Silva, a junior right-hander, walked four and struck out one.

"She did tremendous today. We live and die by Ariel Silva," said Maryknoll coach John Uekawa.

Silva allowed base runners in every inning, but Punahou batted 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven.

Maryknoll scored in the top of the first after Shay Shibata drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second by Hillary Uekawa and scored on Silva's single to right.

"It was good to start us off and jump on them in the first inning," Silva said.

Jessica Guillermo's two-run double highlighted the Spartans' four-run sixth. Kimi Okaneru had an RBI double and Kori Nishitomi added a run-scoring single.
