Advertiser Staff
Police yesterday briefly evacuated several houses in Mo'ili'ili after discovering what appeared to be two pipe bombs in the home of a suspected drug dealer.
Myron M. Nishimura of 522 Lauiki St. was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of selling dangerous drugs from the building, which is less than a block away from Ala Wai Elementary School.
As police investigated at the home, they found several devices that looked like pipe bombs, police said. Investigators last night said they were not certain if the devices were capable of exploding.
Nishimura, 49, was being held on possible felony charges of promoting dangerous drugs, being in possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a prohibited weapon.
TAHITI VISITORS GET STOLEN ART BACK
Two visitors from Tahiti have recovered textile art worth tens of thousands of dollars after police arrested a suspect in a hotel break-in and rental theft, the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii said.
Textile art is used mostly as designs for aloha attire. VASH, which aids visitors in distress, said someone broke into the visitors' room at the Breakers Hotel in Waikiki on Thursday morning while they were asleep and stole wallets, purses, jewelry and car keys.
Someone then stole their rental car, which contained the artwork, VASH said. Police found the car with the artwork still inside, and arrested one person.
