Giordano Jazz Dance founder dies; Hawaii shows go on

Advertiser Staff

Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago will proceed with its Hawai'i concerts this week and next despite the death of company founder and director emeritus Gus Giordano.

Giordano died Sunday. He was 84.

Despite the sadness of all involved, the shows will "go on," said a representative of one of the presenting organizations.

Presenters of a statewide concert tour were been informed today that Giordano died of pneumonia.

The company will perform this Sunday at the Hawai'i Theatre, and Tuesday at Brigham Young University-La'ie.

A performance was held Wednesday at Kamuela, on the Big Island. A Hilo gig is set for Saturday, and the Maui date is tonight.

"Our father was a light for so many people in so many ways in Chicago," Nan and Amy Giordano, his daughters who are carrying on his legacy, said in a statement.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chicago.
