All slots taken for free kidney testing at Capitol today

Advertiser Staff

"World Kidney Day" will be observed at the State Capitol today with early kidney-detection screening available from noon to 4 p.m. in Room 423.

Screening tests, which usually cost about $2,000, will be offered free to the public. An eight-hour fast is recommended, but not required, prior to the test.

However, staff at Rep. John Mizuno's office says there are no more available spaces for today's free screening and that a waiting list has been created.

Rep. Michael Magaoay is co-hosting the event.

Experts estimate that about 20 percent of Hawai'i's population has some form of chronic kidney disease.
