GOING VEGAS
Hooters casino on the way out

By Anthony Curtis

Now that the lengthy $225 million purchase of the Hooters casino appears to be nearing a close, the buying company says that it will ditch the owl theme when it takes control. The plan is to redevelop and rebrand the resort to court the high-end visitor, rather than the perceived lower-demographic Hooters crowd. Indications are that the 727-room hotel will be completely remodeled to the tune of about $130 million. It hasn't been decided if the property will close during the work.

BRING ID: Harrah's has announced that players buying into certain World Series of Poker events with cash this year will be required to produce a valid Social Security or Tax ID number. The requirement will be imposed on single cash buy-ins of $3,000 or above and aggregate daily cash buy-ins that exceed $10,000.

GOLF TALK: Las Vegas is generally acknowledged as the most expensive golf destination in America. But with more than 60 courses in the area, alternatives and opportunities to get a deal abound. A new message board devoted exclusively to discussing the ins and outs of golfing Las Vegas has just opened. Go to www.LVAGolf.com to check it out.

UNLIMITED SUSHI: China Spice at Green Valley Ranch has an all-you-can-eat sushi deal for $32.99, Tuesday to Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. All the regular sushi and rolls are available, along with plenty of higher-priced rolls, appetizers and entrees. Other than finishing within an hour, the deal has surprisingly few restrictions.

Q. Where is the "lobster room" in Las Vegas? It's not a restaurant, but a place where casino restaurants get their supply.

A. The Wynn Las Vegas lobster holding tank is actually a warehouse dubbed "the lobster room" that houses a tank with 40-degree water populated with 2,000 live lobsters. Lobsters are flown in four times a week to supply the approximately 3,500 lobster dinners the Wynn serves every month.
