POLICE BEAT
2nd elderly woman attacked in Mililani

Advertiser Staff

Police last night were hunting for two men who robbed, kidnapped and assaulted a 78-year-old woman in Mililani. It was the second attack against an elderly Mililani woman in less than 12 hours.

The latest assault occurred Friday evening when the woman, alone in her house, went to investigate a call from a neighbor that two men were in her garage, police said.

When she opened the garage door, one of the men inside pushed her to the ground, causing her to suffer a broken rib.

The two men then pushed the woman into the house and locked her in a bedroom while they ransacked the home. They took several household items and a portable safe before driving away in the woman's car, police said.

Police spotted the two men a short time later driving the car erratically in Waikele. An officer tried to stop the car, but the men were able to drive away.

The car was found abandoned in Waipahu several hours later. The men were described only as being in their mid-20s, police said.

The attack came the same day a 75-year-old woman was injured after a man punched her and stole her car from a driveway in Mililani.

That attack occurred about 6 a.m. Friday, just as the woman arrived at a home to pick up her grandchild.

The attacker dragged the woman from the car and punched her, causing injuries to her eye, knee and elbow.

He then drove off in the woman's car with her purse. There were no arrests in that case, police said.
