High school surfing meet postponed

The first Department of Education-approved surfing competition among high schools was postponed today.
The event was moved from Saturday at Kaka'ako to today at Ma'ili.
But after teams showed up at 5:30 a.m. and waited for the 7 a.m. start, the waves were too small to hold the competition. It is scheduled to be held next Sunday.
Teams from Castle, Kahuku, Kaimuki and Kalaheo were scheduled to compete.
The competition is classified as a club type extracurricular activity. It is not sanctioned by the Oahu Interscholastic Association or the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
