Skating: Denny Morrison wins 1,500; Shani Davis 2nd

NAGANO, Japan — Denny Morrison of Canada won the 1,500 meters and American Shani Davis tied for second today at the speedskating World Single Distance Championships.

Morrison clocked a track-record time of 1 minute, 45.22 seconds at Nagano's M-Wave to finish 0.10 seconds ahead of Davis and Sven Kramer of the Netherlands.

Anni Friesinger of Germany won the 1,000 in 1:15.37, 0.64 seconds ahead of Canadian Kristina Groves.

Canada won its third gold medal of the meet, the final event of the speedskating season. Enrico Fabris of Italy, who won the 1,500 gold at the Turin Olympics, was fourth.
