CFB: USC recruit arrested in robbery investigation

LOS ANGELES — A USC football recruit has been arrested for investigation of robbery.
Eighteen-year-old Maurice Simmons was arrested Wednesday night along with another man and remained jailed today.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said someone flagged down a sheriff's deputy in Compton to report a street robbery. Whitmore said deputies later stopped a car that Simmons was driving and confiscated a handgun and belongings allegedly taken from the victim.
Simmons is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker from Dominguez High School in Compton. He signed a letter of intent last month to accept a University of Southern California athletic scholarship.
The school said it was aware of Simmons' arrest but there was no immediate word on whether he will be dropped.
