Prosecutors today charged a Waipahu man for allegedly breaking into a vehicle, threatening a police officer, and entering an apartment without permission while fleeing from police yesterday in Waimalu.

Stewart Alfred Basso, 34, was charged with one count each of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and also a dwelling, and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail totals $50,000 pending an initial appearance tomorrow at District Court.

Basso has 17 prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records. He was arrested Monday on the 98-700 block of Moanalua Loop at 5 a.m.

Police responded to an early morning complaint of a man tampering with the ignition of a vehicle. Upon arrival, Basso allegedly threatened a 41-year-old female officer with a screwdriver and ran from the scene. He allegedly broke into a nearby apartment where he was located and arrested.
