Advertiser Staff

Honolulu and Maui police vehicular homicide investigators recently adjusted their year-end 2007 statistics to reflect one less traffic death on each island.

The final count covering the period from January through December 2007 on O'ahu is 67 and 20 for Maui.

Honolulu police reclassified the Dec. 2 death of Harold Ring, 72, to a medical after receiving paperwork from the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office while the fatal May 19 Maui crash that killed a Missouri man was reclassified to a suicide.

There were 131 traffic deaths in Hawai'i last year, 26 less than in 2006 or a 17 percent decrease.
