Gov. Linda Lingle is endorsing Republican John McCain for president.

Lingle says McCain will cut taxes and make sure the nation's veterans are treated fairly after they complete their military service.

State Rep. Gene Ward is the co-chairman for McCain's Hawai'i campaign.

He says Lingle's endorsement carries weight with island residents.

Lingle was one of six governors who endorsed McCain on Monday
