Coral reef ecology to be discussed

Coral reef ecology will be the focus of a three-lecture series at the Bishop Museum.

The lectures will be at 6 p.m. in the museum's Atherton Halau April 10, May 8 and June 12. Admission and parking are free.

Here's the schedule:

On April 10 Cornell University's Catherine Drew Harvell will focus on global warming and diseases of the coral reef.

On May 8 Charles Birkeland of the University of Hawaii, Manoa will discuss "Leaving the Big Fish: The Importance to Coral Reefs and the Fishery."

On June 12 Bishop Museum underwater explorer Richard Pyle will present "Into the Twilight Zone: Exploring the Deep Coral Reefs."
