Fort Weaver Road widening prompts lane closures

Advertiser Staff

Single lanes of Fort Weaver Road between Aawa Drive and Laulaunui Street will be closed in both directions starting tomorrow at the following locations and times:

-- Intermittent single lane closures in the southbound direction between Laulaunui Street and the Honouliuli Stream Bridge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for traffic signal conduit and irrigation line installations.

-- Intermittent right lane closure in the northbound direction from Aawa Drive to the Honouliuil Stream Bridge from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for drainage system construction.

The work is part of Phase II of a project to widen Fort Weaver Road from four lanes to six, adding an additional traffic lane in each direction from Aawa Drive to Geiger Road.

Phase II is expected to be completed in mid-2009 at a total cost of $59.9 million, 80 percent of which will be paid for with federal funds and 20 percent with state funds.

Phase I of the project was completed in Aug. 2006 and widened Fort Weaver Road from four to six lanes from Farrington Highway to Aawa Drive.
