The Honolulu Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League will next week honor three individuals for efforts tied to Japanese-American internment during World War II.
Robert K. Bratt, Betsy Young and Jane Kurahara will each receive the 2008 Distinguished Service Award during a luncheon set for 11 a.m. July 12 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i.
Bratt, the first director of the Office of Redress Administration, aided former internees from Hawai'i in getting an apology from the president and reparations of $20,000. Young and Kurahara are volunteers at the Japanese Cultural Center and co-manage the resource center. Through research and exhibits, they have contributed to the preservation of Honouliuli, where Japanese-Americans were interned.
