HILO
Draft study of Hilo Bay water available July 2

The county Department of Public Works and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present a draft report of the Hilo Bay Water Quality Study at a public informational meeting on Wednesday.

The study by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with researchers at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo, addresses methods for improving water quality in the bay. Among the options is opening sections of the breakwater to allow greater circulation within the bay.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at Mokupapapa Discovery Center in the Hata Building in downtown Hilo.

For additional information, contact project manager Milton Yoshimoto by e-mail at Milton.T.Yoshimoto@usace.army.mil, or call Galen Kuba with the county's Public Works department, 808-961-8422.
