'Ewa Beach native and 'Iolani and Stanford alum Hongzhe Sun qualified for a spot in today's semifinals of the 100-meter backstroke at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Sun is seeded ninth with a time of 54.83 seconds. He must finish with a top-eight time to advance to the finals.

The winner of the finals automatically qualifies for the Olympics.
