MLB: Braves complete trade for Norton
Associated Press
ATLANTA — The Braves completed their May 5 trade for first baseman-outfielder Greg Norton by sending minor league left-handed pitcher Nelson Payano to the Seattle Mariners today.
Payano, 25, was 3-2 with a 3.95 ERA in 27 games for Double-A Mississippi. He spent most of the 2007 season at Class A Myrtle Beach, where he was 4-4 with a 3.56 ERA.
Norton was acquired to provide depth for the Braves' bench after infielder Martin Prado was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Norton has been more than a pinch-hitter, however, starting 13 games in left field, three at first base and two as the Braves' designated hitter.
Norton, who was designated for assignment by Seattle on April 30, is hitting .207 with two homers and 12 RBIs for Atlanta. Norton was 7-for-16 (.435) in six games for Seattle.
