Sixteen arrested for DUI on Big Island last week

Big Island police arrested 16 motorists for drunk driving last week, including three who were involved in accidents.
Through June 23 there have been 670 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared to 621 over the same period last year, an increase of 8 percent. Major accidents are down 14 percent on the Big Island compared to the same time last year, police said. There have been 862 major accident on the Big Island this year, compared to 1,004 at the same time last year. The drop in accidents also shows in fatalities. This year there have been 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 17 at this time last year, a decrease of 29 percent.
