South Korea's Jennifer Song won the final two holes to defeat Honolulu's Stephanie Kono, 2 up, yesterday in the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links tournament at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis.

Song, who will attend Southern California in the fall, faces Tiffany Joh, a UCLA senior from San Diego, in today's 36-hole match play final. Joh beat Tiffany Lua, of Rowland Heights, Calif., 4 and 3, in the other semifinal.

With the match all square, Song won the par-4 No. 17 with a par. On the par-5 18th, Kono, a Punahou alum, hit her approach shot over the green, losing a birdie opportunity to force extra holes.

Neither golfer could take more than a 1-up lead until the final hole.

Song won the second hole for a 1 up lead, but Kono, who will attend UCLA in the fall, squared it by winning No. 3. The match remained tied until Kono took a 1 up lead with a birdie on the par-3 No. 9. Song tied with a par on the par-3 No. 13 and went 1 up with an eagle on the par-5 No. 14. Kono squared the match with a par on the par-4 No. 15.

Kono defeated Michelle Shin of Cape Coral, Fla., 5 and 4, to advance to the semifinals. Song beat Lauren Doughtie, 4 and 3.

Shin won the par-4 No. 8 with a birdie to square the match, but Kono won the next four holes to take control. She closed it out with a birdie on the par-5 No. 14.
